Migrating Collections to PDQ Connect

You can move your collections to PDQ Connect from inside PDQ Inventory. Select one or more collections in the tree, right click, then click Migrate Collection(s) to Connect.

PDQ Inventory exports the selected collections and opens them in the PDQ Migrate tool, where you sign in to PDQ Connect and choose which collections to create as groups. Your collections stay in PDQ Inventory; migrating copies them, it does not remove or change them.

The PDQ Migrate tool

PDQ Migrate is a separate tool that PDQ Inventory downloads the first time you migrate something. You are asked before anything is downloaded, and again whenever a newer version is available. If you decline an update, the version you already have is used.

The tool is installed to C:\Program Files (x86)\Admin Arsenal\Migrate Tool, and is shared with PDQ Deploy if both are installed. The download is around 68 MB, so it may take a few moments on a slow connection.

What can be migrated

Collection type

Description

Dynamic and static collections

Collections you created yourself can be migrated, either one at a time or several at once.

Collection Library collections

Collections from the Collection Library cannot be migrated, and the menu item is unavailable when one is selected. Duplicate a library collection first if you want to migrate your own copy of it.

Nested collections

Child collections are included with their parent, so selecting a parent is enough. In PDQ Migrate you can choose whether nested collections become group folders in PDQ Connect.

If a collection's filters refer to another collection, make sure that collection is included in the selection, otherwise PDQ Migrate cannot resolve it. The exported file is written to your own temporary folder and is cleaned up automatically, so it is never left where other users of this computer could read it.
